Types of Giving

Make a Difference

Annual Fund

Annual gifts are a crucial form of support that can be put to use right away. These unrestricted resources provided through the Fund For Excellence are used to support priorities not covered by State funding. You can read more about College priorities for annual giving on our Make a Gift page.

Parent Gifts

As an Illinois parent, you can enrich the student experience by helping support a wide array of programs across the College of Education. Leading issues that resonate with parents include scholarship support, study abroad opportunities, and general unit support.

Deferred Gifts

Deferred gifts are the result of careful planning that aligns your financial and philanthropic goals to maximize benefits to you and the College. Examples of these types of giving opportunities include: bequests, charitable trusts and gift annuities, retained life estates, life insurance, retirement accounts, and securities or property.

Endowed Funds

An endowment is a self-renewing resource that the University holds in perpetuity (forever) and does not spend. Endowed gifts are invested, and the earnings from these investments help fund the cause you are most interested in supporting. Such generous gifts provide a steady source of funds, enabling the College to develop long-term programs and services for students and faculty.

Matching Gifts

More than 7,500 companies will match employee contributions, making matching gifts an ideal way to support the College. You receive recognition for the entire gift: both your contribution and the company match. Eligible donors for a corporate match may include retired employees, spouses of employees, or widows/widowers of former employees depending on the organization’s giving policy. To see if you might be eligible for a corporate match, visit the University of Illinois Foundation's Matching Gifts information page.

Securities

Gifts of publicly-traded securities that have appreciated in value allow you to avoid capital gains taxes while also receiving a tax deduction for your gift. The university benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from making a contribution that would be larger than what you might have been able to donate in cash. We’re happy to work with you or your broker to facilitate your securities gift.

Corporate Gifts

In partnership with the Office of Corporate Relations, your company is provided with a gateway to the College of Education at Illinois, one of the nation’s leading research institutions. We can assist you in creating a customized philanthropic program that aligns directly with your business objectives and boosts your company’s visibility on campus.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

Honoring a special person in your life or commemorating your graduation, anniversary, or other occasion with a gift to the University makes for a personal and lasting tribute. You can specify for whom or what you are making your gift. Tribute gifts provide meaningful support for Education at Illinois while allowing you to celebrate the people and events that are meaningful to you.
