Proposal Submissions

Abstract submission deadline: TBD, at 11:59 p.m. CST

For the 2025 Graduate Student Conference, we are accepting submissions for both in-progress or completed original scholarship. The 2025 Conference will be held in a hybrid format.

Submissions guidelines are as follows:

  • Do not include any identifying information within the abstract.
  • Student(s) must be enrolled in an accredited graduate program as of Spring 2024 or registered for a graduate class in an accredited University and be in good academic standing. 
  • Must meet the deadline for submission.
  • Abstracts must be between 300 and 500 words in length. 
  • Abstracts must be free of tables, graphs, and illustrations.
  • By submitting the abstract, the author or authors grant permission to the Graduate Student Conference Committee and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to publish their information in whole or in part for the purposes of the Graduate Student Conference. 

Poster, Paper, and Roundtable Submission Guidelines

The Poster abstracts should include:

  • Research problem or objectives, with a spotlight on community relevance.
  • Theoretical or conceptual scaffold grounding the research in community contexts.
  • Research question(s) underpinned by literature emphasizing community impact.
  • A methodological approach tailored to decipher community implications.
  • Data sources and evidence showcasing community engagement or influence.
  • Results underscoring community benefits, insights, or transformative changes.
  • Scholarly prominence, emphasizing the broader community ramifications.
  • Proposed recommendations or actionable insights derived from the research for community betterment.

The Paper abstracts should include:
  • A clear statement of the main argument and rationale for research,
  • A description of the research goals and questions,
  • An overview of the study’s methodology, population, and materials,
  • Expected or actual results/ findings,
  • Conclusions (for studies that have been finalized),
  • Implications/applications, and
  • A statement about the relevance of the submission to the theme: Designing Futures: Education as Innovation and Interdisciplinarity.
