Frederick A. Rodgers Award

The Frederick A. Rodgers Award is sponsored by an endowment fund established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Professor Emeritus Frederick A. Rodgers, who dedicated his 30-year career to strengthening the programs and leadership in urban Education. Professor emeritus Frederick A. Rodgers is also the recipient of the 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Education Alumni Association. The award supports doctoral candidates who are working full time as teachers or administrators, preferably pre-college, with under-served students in an urban or small urban environment.

Awards are by academic merit, professional experience, public service, and commitment to the field of Education. Each year, at least one doctoral candidate in the College of Education is designated as an outstanding Frederick A. Rodgers awardee.

The awardee will receive a taxable award payable in two installments (½ fall; ½ spring) which will be applied to the student account.  However, the spring disbursement is pending satisfactory progress in fall.

Eligibility

  1. Work as a full-time teacher or administrator, preferably pre-college, with under-served students in an urban or small urban school environment.
  2. Registered doctoral candidate in the College of Education during the fall and spring semesters.
  3. Completed qualifying examinations.
  4. Maintain satisfactory and continuous progress toward degree

Awardee Expectations

  1. Be a registered doctoral student in the College of Education during the fall and spring semesters.
  2. Work as a full-time teacher or administrator, preferably pre-college, with under-served students in an urban or small urban school environment
  3. Maintain satisfactory and continuous progress toward degree
  4. Attend the College of Education Student Recognition Brunch held in November to meet the donor, and write and thank the donor.
