The Al S. Davis Leadership Award was established in 2002 by Mr. Al S. Davis to recognize how his life and educational career were enhanced through his long and ongoing relationship with the College of Education at the University of Illinois. The award provides support to a student from an underrepresented group who has pursued or intends to pursue a leadership role in teaching/administration in a K-12 urban or small urban school environment.
Awards are by academic merit, professional experience, public service and commitment to the field of Education. Each year, at least one master's or doctoral student in the College of Education is designated as an outstanding Al S. Davis Leadership Awardee. Doctoral scholars are eligible for a maximum of two Davis awards.
The awardee will receive a taxable award payable in two installments (½ fall; ½ spring) which will be applied to the student account. However, the spring disbursement is pending satisfactory progress in fall.
