Academic Excellence (ACE) Series: Navigating the Academic Job Market

Champaign , USA
Room 242 Education

Room 242 Education

Event Type: Lecture

Speaker Information: Professor Paul Bruno

This talk will describe some of the basics of the academic job market for students who are earning a doctorate. We will discuss common types of jobs pursued by doctoral students in education, how they differ, and why different students might prefer some over others. We will then discuss the logistics of the job market and how you can prepare for it, even if you are not yet ready to graduate. We will focus this discussion on the PhD market for faculty positions at colleges and universities in the United States, but we will also discuss important differences for other types of positions, such as jobs in government or at think tanks. There will be time for questions, and I will direct you to additional resources useful for preparing for the job market.
