Biography

Nina is a doctoral student in Diversity and Equity in Education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Eastern Illinois University, and her Master’s in Education with a focus on Secondary English from The George Washington University. Throughout her fifteen years of teaching, Nina has taught in a variety of environments, from public charter schools in Southeast Washington, DC, to private schools in the Northern Virginia suburbs. She now teaches 8th grade language arts at Urbana Middle School. Nina’s research interests include encouraging student voice within the classroom, investigating the efficacy of workshop pedagogy, and social justice/equity issues within the English Language Arts classroom. Nina is the proud wife to Thomas and mother to Winola, Maybelle, and Barrett.
