The master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Trauma-informed Practice and Pedagogy will introduce students to the incidence, impact, and causes of trauma in children including individual traumas, and systems of oppression, bias, and discrimination present in and outside of our education system. Participants will learn to recognize the signs of trauma and how to use equity-centered trauma-informed practices while recognizing and seeking to eliminate the causes of trauma in their circle of influence and the larger education system.
The Trauma-Informed Education (TIE) graduate certificate program offered by the Department of Special Education will prepare you to identify and implement trauma-informed practices in education settings. The coursework consists of content related to trauma-informed education, child development, and researching solutions to issues of everyday practice in education. Students completing this certificate program can apply the course credits earned towards a master's or a doctorate program upon admission to those programs.
The Trauma-Informed Education Micro-Credential is an online, self-paced program composed of modules focusing on trauma-informed strategies tailored to your grade level. Completing this program will result in a PEL transcriptable micro-credential. This program is coming soon and you can request to receive information on this program when it is live here.
The Trauma-Informed MOOC is a massive open online course on the Coursera platform that offers an overview of trauma and trauma-informed education. This program is provided at no cost to help you educate yourself on trauma-informed strategies. You also have the option of earning a certificate of completion for a fee. This program is offered on the Coursera Platform.

Online Master's in Education
The master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) with a concentration in Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy is a collaboration between the Departments of C&I and Special Education (SPED). The 32-credit master’s degree has courses in C&I and SPED in trauma, trauma-informed education, and educator well-being, as well as foundation and elective courses many of which address issues related to systemic trauma.
Online Graduate Certificate
The Trauma-Informed Education (TIE) graduate certificate is a 12-14 credit hour non-degree program that is designed to prepare students to identify and implement trauma-informed practices in education settings. Students who complete the certificate can apply course credits from the certificate to a master’s or doctorate program upon admission to those programs.
Micro-Credential
The Trauma-Informed Education (TIE) Micro-Credential is a 30-hour non-degree program comprised of self-paced modules focusing on trauma-informed strategies for your grade level yielding in PEL transcriptable micro-credential. MOOC
The Trauma-Informed Education (TIE) MOOC is an 8-hour massive open online course (MOOC) that provides an overview of trauma & trauma-informed education yielding in a certificate of completion.
