Hear from a panel of Illinois College of Education alumni working in international higher education who each will speak briefly about their career paths, working in international higher education, and how their education prepared them for their careers. We will break out into smaller group discussions in breakout rooms so people can ask informal questions and network. Alumni will also offer advice for folks trying to aim their careers in the direction of international higher education. 

Panelists:

Brian Egan is  Assistant Director of Student Affairs and International Engagement Coordinator at Michigan State University (College of Social Science). He advises Undergraduate students in Social Science,  develops, coordinates and implements support programs for undergraduate international students, including international student enrollment requirements, coordinate New Student Orientation, and teaches a Freshmen Seminar. He is in the doctoral program (EdD) in the department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a Concentration in Global Studies. 

Courtney Smith is Director of Global and Intercultural Engagement at Transylvania University. She advises students interested in opportunities to earn academic credit abroad (study, intern, teach, research, serve), assists in the creation and maintenance of innovative partnerships and programs abroad, and works with various campus stakeholders to promote internationalization of the University. She is in the doctoral program (EdD) in the department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a Concentration in Global Studies. 

Erin L. Gahimer is Senior Programs Coordinator at the University of Dayton, Office of Education Abroad. She says, "In my role, I work in partnership with faculty across the university to plan, develop, & execute faculty-led programs that take place in the summer in Europe, Asia, and Latin America". She is in the doctoral program (EdD) in the department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a Concentration in Global Studies.

Joy Phaphouvaninh is Director of Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She oversees the campus study abroad/exchange office, which currently includes over 120 programs abroad with partners institutions (including short-term, semester or year-study abroad and reciprocal exchange). Her office is responsible for partner relations and agreements/contracts, marketing, program management, and student advising. She is pursuing a PhD in the department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with concentrations in Human Resource Development and Global Studies in Education.
