Higher Education provides graduate students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the social, political, and economic issues encompassing the development and future challenges of higher and postsecondary institutions.
Typical Plan of Study (minimum 64 hours)
Core Requirements
Core Elective- select one course from the following core elective options
- EPOL 555: Higher Education Finance (crosslisted with EOL 576)
- EPOL 558: The Community College (crosslisted with EOL 573)
- EPOL 559: Higher Education Law (crosslisted with EOL 578)
- EPOL 561: Changing College Curriculum (crosslisted with EOL 586)
- EPOL 562: Diversity in Higher Education (crosslisted with EOL 574)
- EPOL 566: Public Policy in Higher Ed (crosslisted with EOL 577)
Specialization & Focus Area: select four courses from the following.
- EPOL 551: Organization of Higher Education
- EPOL 552: Foundation of Higher Education
- EPOL 554: College Teaching
- EPOL 555: Higher Education Finance
- EPOL 558: The Community College
- EPOL 559: Higher Education Law
- EPOL 560: Student Affairs Administration
- EPOL 561: Changing College Curriculum
- EPOL 562: Diversity in Higher Education
- EPOL 563: The College Student
- EPOL 564: College Student Development
- EPOL 565: Critical Issues in Higher Education
- EPOL 566: Public Policy in Higher Education
- EPOL 590: Advanced Graduate Seminar (Sections approved by advisor.)
- EPOL 595: Independent Study (As approved by advisor)
- EPOL 598: Internship in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership
The Specialization & Focus Areas should be defined with the advisor and include: History & Foundations, Policies & Politics, Administrative Theory & Practice, Community College Leadership, Student Development & Services.
Elective coursework
Elective coursework should be chosen in consultation with the faculty advisor.
Additional Research Courses
Courses must be chosen from one of the approved Research Methodology Areas or by approval of faculty advisor.
