Project Step-Up Investigates Degree Attainment at Major Universities

by The College of Education / Jan 3, 2011

Project STEP-UP (STEM Trends in Enrollment and Persistence for Underrepresented Populations) investigates the matriculation and degree attainment of undergraduate students in scientific fields at large research universities. Of interest are the factors that impact the participation and success of women, racial and ethnic minorities, and low-income students.

Funded by the National Science Foundation and the Ford Foundation, the research is led by Professor William Trent with Adjunct Professor Casey George-Jackson.

Much of the data collection was completed the first year, George-Jackson said, adding that the current focus is on analysis and dissemination of the findings via conferences and publications.
