The workshop on Global Middle East on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus aims to probe what globalization really means in today’s Middle East, and how it is reflected in movements, peoples, cultures, art forms, and networks.

The workshop on Global Middle East aims to probe what globalization really means in today’s Middle East, and how it is reflected in movements, peoples, cultures, art forms, and networks. The aim is to show how groups, ideas, and practices that originated in the region are developing not in isolation, but in direct and complex connection with other cultural and socio- economic geographies. Conference organized by the Center for South Asia and Middle East Studies (CSAMES) Professors Asef Bayat and Linda Herrera, and co-sponsored by Center for Advanced Study; Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies; Center for Global Studies; Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies; College of Education; Department of Political Science; Department of Sociology; European Union Center; LAS Global Studies Program; The Program in Arms Control and Domestic and International Security; Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program
