Brian Fields will give a talk at the October 13, 2017, MSTE Friday Lunch Series titled "Launching Revolutions in General Relativity and Exoplanets."
Event Type: Lecture
Speaker Information: Brian Fields
The 2017 total solar eclipse was likely the most viewed in human history, and was a spectacular moment of public engagement and interest in astronomy and science in general. Illinois Astronomers took full advantage of this opportunity, and members of the AstroIllini outreach group will demonstrate hands-on activities. Moreover, eclipses also provide unique laboratories. Brian Fields will discuss two examples of eclipse-based science that have changed the face of physics and astronomy: testing Einstein's General Relativity theory, and discovering planets around other stars.
This event was originally scheduled for Friday, September 29th, 2017, but, due to unforseen circumstances, had to be cancelled last minute. It has now been rescheduled.
Cost: Free and open to the public
