This workshop is for superintendents and principals who want to advance a new brand of leadership with teachers as essential partners in solving problems in instruction.
Dr. Barnett Berry, an industry expert on teacher leadership and founder and CEO of the Center for Teaching Quality, will provide a brief history and speak on trends impacting teacher leadership.
Dr. Berry’s research has focused on policies to advance the teaching profession, spanning from teacher recruitment and preparation to how teaching effectiveness is evaluated and rewarded.
Dr. Berry will moderate a panel discussion. The panel will be comprised of educational leaders who will explore the roles that educational leaders must play to ensure a successful teacher leadership initiative.

This program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Education in Small Urban Communities and ELA and runs concurrently with the 2016 Chancellor’s Academy. At the conclusion of the panel discussion we will join the Chancellor’s Academy participants to hear Dr. Jason Helfer, ISBE Assistant Superintendent for Teacher and Leader Effectiveness, give the closing keynote.
