Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy Ed.M. - Information Session for Teachers and Classroom Professionals - Education at Illinois, Online Programs

 

Join staff from the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and  Online Programs at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Education for this information session specifically for teachers and classroom professionals to learn more about Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy Ed.M. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, so come prepared to engage! During the session, you will learn about:

The Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy concentration: 

  • is for individuals who are interested in creating equity-centered trauma-informed educational environments that benefit all students. 

  • is for individuals who seek the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and meet the needs of students in the educational setting who have experienced trauma or toxic levels of stress. 

  • is designed primarily for practicing teachers, but can be applied to other professionals who serve children in an educational environment. 

The recipients of the C&I master’s degree with a Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy concentration will be able to: 

  • Realize the incidence and impact of trauma including systems of oppression, bias, and discrimination; 

  • Recognize the signs of trauma and toxic stress in their students;  

  • Apply trauma-informed practices to establish supportive relationships with students; 

  • Create safe learning environments that do not contribute to re-traumatization; 

  • Advocate for the elimination of the causes of trauma and toxic stress in their circle of influence and in the larger education system; 

  • Identify and implement effective self-care practices to reduce the incidence of secondary traumatic stress among educators. 

 

The EdM in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Trauma-Informed Practice and Pedagogy does not result in endorsements or licensure in Illinois. 

 

The target audience for this degree concentration is teachers. The courses are geared toward professionals who are working in classrooms or schools. Individuals interested in this program who are not educators should contact the Director of Trauma-Informed Education to determine whether the program will meet their needs.
