Careers in Education: Online Programs Alumni Panel - Education at Illinois, Online Programs

As part of our series, Careers in Education, we aim to explore diverse career opportunities available to our students and alumni.

The panelists will discuss their current positions and how their studies at the College of Education at Illinois impacted their professional pursuits. The second half of the session will enable participants to pose career-specific questions to the panelists and learn about how others might advance into their fields. You could join us for the entire session or the second half focused on career-specific questions. This event aims to inform current and prospective students about career possibilities.

Dr. Marlee Bunch is an interdisciplinary educator, researcher, advocate for students, seeker of social justice and equity, and lifelong learner. She obtained her Ed.D. from the University of Illinois in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership with an emphasis on Diversity and Equity (2022). With over sixteen years of teaching experience at the secondary and post-secondary levels, she has continuously worked in diverse classrooms and sought to ensure that students receive equitable and rigorous instruction and mentorship. Dr. Bunch advocates for students and uses writing, poetry, art, and history to encourage dialogue and self-reflection. Her research focuses on Black female educators in Mississippi pre/post Brown v. Board and the impact history has had on the current lack of representation of BIPOC (Black/Indigenous/Persons of Color) teachers in K-12 public classrooms. She also has a book that is being published this March with Teachers College Press titled The Magnitude of Us.

Tyler Rutledge is in his 4th year as a High School Science teacher. He currently sits on his school's equity team and runs a student club focused on social justice, as well as a student-led Muslim Student Association. Tyler completed his Master's in EPOL with a focus in Diversity and Equity this past December. He plans to use this degree along with his education degree to take a position in his district as the Equity Coordinator in this upcoming school year.
