Urban Needs in Teacher Education (UNITE)
UNITE, or Urban Needs In Teacher Education, aims to achieve excellence in education by creating highly qualified teachers for our nation’s most disadvantaged youth. Our university chapter pairs with the national non-profit arm of UNITE which is hosted in Chicago to provide unique, firsthand experiences in urban settings for pre-service teachers. UNITE provides opportunities for students to gain first hand experience in urban areas in order to promote their immediate success as teachers upon arrival in our nation’s most underprivileged and underrepresented K-12 schools. We work specifically to complete service-learning projects in the CU area, develop our own professionalism, and organize Alternative Spring Break trips to underprivileged schools in different parts of the nation. To learn more about UNITE as a whole visit the web site. To learn more about our chapter, contact Sarah Varland (varland1@illinois.edu) or Sarah Strom (sdstrom097@gmail.com).
