Wheeler Foundation Award

Competition Held Each Spring

The Wheeler Foundation Scholarships were established in 2011 to provide tuition assistance to students in the Department of Special Education who demonstrate financial need and who intend to work with students with disabilities in classroom settings. For the 2024-2025 academic year, four $11,250 scholarships will be awarded. These scholarships will be provided to undergraduate students (juniors or seniors) or master students in special education.

Criteria

Selection criteria for this year’s Wheeler Foundation Scholarship recipients include:

  • Full-time student status in Special Education (12 hours/semester for fall 2024 and spring 2025)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 for last 30 credit hours
  • Commitment to classroom teaching
  • Evidence of financial need, including the lack of tuition waiver.

Process

Interested students should submit a resume and a typed, maximum two-page statement describing their interest and plans to teach students with disabilities in classroom settings, and their financial needs.

Recipients will be determined by a selection committee and are expected to attend the College of Education Award Banquet during the 2024-2025 academic year.
