Field-Based Graduate Program in Indonesia

Earn Your Graduate Certificate or a Master's Degree. While Teaching in Indonesia

Illinois Abroad & Online is a unique opportunity for graduate students to gain international experience while earning their online graduate certificate or a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois. Participants will live and work in Indonesia, gaining hands-on teaching experience in a local school while completing their coursework online.

Program Highlights

• Live and Work in Indonesia: Spend one or two years teaching in a local school with a minimum one-year contract.

• Comprehensive Support: Receive housing, a modest stipend, and onsite orientation to help you transition smoothly.

• Guidance from an Illinois Alum: Onsite support is provided by an English-speaking Indonesian guide who holds a Ph.D. from Illinois.

• Visa Assistance: Regular visa fees apply, but we provide full assistance with the process.

• No Language Requirement: While learning some Indonesian can be beneficial, no prior language training is required.

• Flight Assistance: Participants are responsible for flight costs, but we offer guidance, including airport pickup if needed.

• Study Abroad Fee Covers Support & Training: A placement fee covers preparation, training, and ongoing support throughout your experience.

• Flexible School Work Schedule: Work 20-30 hours per week in a school setting, with a schedule that accommodates your Illinois online graduate courses.

• Earn Internship Credits: Receive 4 internship credits toward a graduate certificate or 8 credits toward a master's or Ed.D.

• Safe, Supportive Placement: Locations will vary, but all placements are in welcoming school communities at the invitation of local schools.

• Teach English Learners: Work with students of varying ages who have some English proficiency and are actively learning English.

• Comprehensive Student Support: Participants are enrolled in UIUC insurance and supported by the Education Office of International Programs, as well as all other online student resources.

• Access to Illinois Campus Resources: Enjoy full access to the University of Illinois' extensive online resources to support your studies.
