Research Biography

I teach in the areas of organization and leadership development. My current research interests focus on the evolution of the field of Human Resource Development and leadership development in corporate settings. A native German, I conduct much of my research in international and comparative contexts.

My past research has concentrated on leadership and management development, the foundations of Human Resource Development, and the evaluation of public vocational education, namely of Tech Prep and School to Work reform initiatives.

My current interest focuses on two areas: (1) leadership behaviors in human resource education; and (2) the definition and justification of the subject matter of Human Resource Development. In the latter issue, in particular, the research approach is comparative and cross-national, with special focus on US/European contrasts.

My long-term goal is the conceptual and empirical definition and justification of the field of workplace learning and the articulation of the knowledge and skill base required by professionals who enter the field or advance in it.
