Education at Illinois Scholars to be Honored at AERA Annual Meeting

We are pleased to highlight College of Education faculty who will be awarded at the world’s largest gathering of education researchers—the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting.
The 2024 AERA Annual Meeting, held in Philadelphia, PA from April 11 to 14, is themed "Dismantling Racial Injustice and Constructing Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action." Participation in the Annual Meeting by Education at Illinois faculty and graduate students is robust, with 47 faculty members delivering 110 presentations and 43 graduate students set to give 77 presentations. Additionally, this year's AERA gathering will see Professor Rochelle Gutiérrez be inducted as an AERA Fellow, rounding out the College's current roster of 10 AERA Fellows.

Osly Flores, Assistant Professor, EPOL
Emerging Scholar Award, Division A
Flores, assistant professor of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership, has been named a co-recipient of the 2024 Emerging Scholar Award from AERA Division A. He was recognized by the award committee for his research's scholarly and practical implications related to race-conscious transformative school leadership and its centering of the voices and experiences of individuals historically marginalized by educational institutions.
Giselle Martinez Negrette, Assistant Professor, C&I
2024 AERA Annual Meeting Registration Award for Early Career Scholars, Bilingual Education Research SIG
Martinez Negrette, an assistant professor of Curriculum & Instruction, is being awarded by this AERA Special Interest Group in recognition of her exciting scholarship related to bilingual/multilingual education, English as a Second Language, sociolinguistics, and international comparative education.
Stephanie Toliver, Assistant Professor, C&I
Outstanding Book Award, Qualitative Research SIG
Toliver, also an assistant professor of Curriculum & Instruction, has been recognized by this AERA Special Interest Group for her book Recovering Black Storytelling in Qualitative Research: Endarkened Storywork in recognition of its significant contributions to qualitative educational research methodology.
Judith Kom Nguiffo, Doctoral Candidate, EPOL
Graduate Student Travel Award, Division H
Kom Nguiffo is pursuing a doctoral degree focused on Diversity and Equity in Education. Her work involves program evaluation, survey design and delivery, management of large datasets, and data analysis to support policymaking. Division H: Research, Evaluation, and Assessment in Schools is committed to supporting scholarly presentations and publications.
