Math, Science, and Technology (MST) Division

The MST Division of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction focuses on Mathematics, Science, and Technology education. The MST faculty are national and international leaders at the forefront of their fields. They prepare cutting-edge scholars who raise and address vital questions about math, science, and technology education. The MST faculty support and encourage a wide variety of perspectives and research methodologies.

Mathematics Education

The study of the theory and practice of mathematics teaching and learning. Graduate students focus on a variety of topics within mathematics education, including student diversity and equity, teacher professional development, children's number learning, and mathematics education reform.

Science Education

The study of the theory and practice of teaching and learning science. Graduate students focus on a variety of topics within science education, including the nature of science (NOS), constructivism in science education, and relationships among the science curriculum, teachers and diverse students.

Technology Studies

The study of the impact of information and computer technologies and other electronic media on students, teachers, schools, and their sociocultural environments. The University of Illinois has a strong tradition of technological leadership and innovation, and CI faculty and graduate students continue that tradition.

The MST Division offers a flexible program of study, housed primarily within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Many opportunities are available for coursework and collaboration in other departments in the College of Education and other departments and programs within the University.
