Biography

I am a first-year doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at the Department of Educational Psychology, working with Dr. Xu Li, and I am an international student from South Korea.

I completed my undergraduate and graduate education at the Catholic University of Korea with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology. During my master's, I participated in multiple research projects focused on non-suicidal self-injury. Furthermore, I started clinical experiences as a counseling trainee at the graduate counseling center of the Catholic University of Korea, working with the college population. I am a licensed counselor accredited by the Korean Counseling Psychology Association. Since graduation, I worked at the municipal counseling center, working with adolescents on probation to provide mental health counseling as a counseling order by the court.

Broadly speaking, my research interests are racial minorities' mental health, racial identity, psychotherapy process and outcome, and suicide-related behavior. Additionally, my interest populations are first-generation immigrants and international students, centering Asian and Korean communities. I am experiencing a shift in my environment by moving to the States from Korea. Throughout the year, I would like to adapt to changes in my life and academic areas. Also, I aim to reorganize my research questions from the perspective of myself as an international student and racial minority.

Outside of school, I enjoy connecting with friends, going to tasty cafes, and watching YouTube.

I am really open-minded to connect with people who share the interests. I am excited to the opportunities that I can collaborate with those groups, so feel free to contact me if you want to do it:)
