Ana Olguin is a Doctoral Student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at UIUC. Having earned a Master’s in Mental Health, education was not her first career choice, but certainly it became her passion and calling. Ana served as a special education teacher for 11 years in Miami Dade County. While teaching, she earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Florida and soon thereafter began her doctoral journey at UIUC. Ana is currently researching the impact of refugee stories in early childhood classrooms.
CI 443: Mathematics in Early Childhood Education (CI 443) Focuses on the teaching of foundational mathematical concepts in prekindergarten, kindergarten, and the primary grades. Pre-service teachers will learn the value of "mathematizing" the worlds of children and creating authentic experiences through which children learn key mathematics concepts.
