College of Education graduate back in Champaign after White House visit

by Julie Wurth / Sep 27, 2011

CHAMPAIGN (NEWS-GAZETTE) — Aside from a press conference and some TV cameras in the library, Monday was a school day like any other at Franklin Middle School.

Students "went on with their work," said eighth-grader David Alston, not at all surprised that their principal just got back from a meeting with the president of the United States.

As reported in Saturday's News-Gazette, Franklin Principal Angela Smith was one of a handful of educators invited to appear with President Obama on Friday as he announced reforms to the No Child Left Behind Act.
