Spend your spring semester of sophomore year in Bath, England!
This program is designed for the education students to study abroad in Bath, England in the spring of their sophomore year.
Where you will study
Established in 1989, Advanced Studies in England (ASE) is a non-profit educational institution offering semester, full-year and summer to students from a variety of U.S. colleges and universities. They provide a culturally stimulating and intellectually rigorous study abroad experience. Their students enjoy a supportive caring environment in which to live and work, and a multitude of challenging opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
The Advance Studies in England (ASE) program provides students the opportunity to study alongside fellow U.S. students at Nelson House: the ASE study center. ASE's integrative learning approach combines seminar style classes coupled with study trips throughout England. The ASE curriculum and the experience of living abroad in a different country provides a genuinely culturally enriching experience.
Whatever your level of interest in sport - whether you like merely to spectate, to keep fit at the gym, enjoy the occasional jog, or want to play competitive sport while you're abroad - Bath is an ideal place to be based. The city is blessed with some of the best indoor and outdoor facilities anywhere in the British Isles. The Sports Training Village at the University of Bath campus will be available to ASE students as well as the the City Sports Centre which is within walking distance of the Nelson House, where students live.
For studying, students can utilize the Nelson House facility - a re-furbished Georgian town house. ASE inhabits all six floors of this historic building, which provides classrooms, a library, desktop computers and laptop internet ports, a student common room in the stone cellar, a courtyard garden, and staff offices. ASE staff, who have an 'open door' policy, are readily available for advice and support.
ASE is affiliated with University College, Oxford and the seminar courses follow same small tutorial style of Oxford University. The courses offered throughout the semester span across a wide array of humanities and are specialized for ASE students. Courses are available in the areas of Art and Architecture, Classical and Modern Languages, Classical Studies, Creative Writing, Education Programme, English, History, Medieval Studies, Philosophy, Political and Social Sciences, Theatre and Film, Women's/Gender Studies.

Classes are held Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved for course-related study and study trips. The study trips include visits to Glastonbury, Stonehenge and Oxford. The program includes a three-day weekend to Cornwall where students can go on cliff walks and visit the harbor villages and beaches.

Seminar courses are comprised of no more than 13 students.
Through ASE, you will have opportunities to explore the country, whether on your own, on course related study trips, or through scheduled Day Trips. There are trips to London, to Stonehenge, and to numerous other places. There’s plenty to see, with easy access to the United Kingdom and mainland Europe!
Housing is in beautiful historic town houses throughout the city center of Bath and are well equipped for self-catering.
