About Our International Students
As of this fall 2012, over 12% of our students are international. They join us from locations around the world including Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Ecuador, Gaza Stip, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Lebanon, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

A Welcome Message from Dean Mary KalantzisThank you for your interest in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The University of Illinois is one of the world's pre-eminent higher education institutions. Its excellence is recognized by numerous measurements, including the 2012 Shanghai Jiao Tong University rankings, which ranks the University of Illinois 25th in the world.
The College of Education is equally committed to excellence. Since its founding in 1918, it has graduated tens of thousands of students and has been a global center for education research. The College has over 25,000 active alumni, including 5,000 who graduated from its highly ranked graduate programs. Alumni have gone on the very successful careers in government, non-governmental agencies and schools, colleges and universities around the world.
The University of Illinois is a leader in international student education. It enrolls over 8,000 international students, giving it the largest enrollment of all US public universities and the second-largest enrollment of all US universities, private and public. This large international student population makes the University of Illinois, and Urbana-Champaign, particularly welcoming environments for students from abroad.
The College of Education enrolls students from nearly 40 countries and all of the world's regions. These students bring their diverse voices, experiences and insights to the classroom, enriching the education of both international and domestic students. The students who enroll in the College join distinguished, internationally renowned scholars and award winning teachers in an environment that promotes quality learning and research. Faculty members contribute to the international focus of the College by collaborating with colleagues world wide, incorporating international course content and leading study tours abroad.
The College of Education offers degree programs at the Undergraduate, Master's, Certificate, and Doctoral level. To ensure flexibility, the College offers its high quality education in on-line, on-campus and mixed on-line/on-campus programs, enabling students to combine professional education with the requirements of work and personal lives.
High quality academics, a significant international student population, and a well-established engagement with global education makes the College of Education at the University of Illinois a particularly convivial place for international students to pursue their education.
