Teacher Leader Specialization (TLS) is intended to increase the quality of leadership, teaching and learning practices, as well as recognize the critical importance that leadership by teachers brings to the overall school improvement mission of the school. TLS will create a career path to retain and develop high-performing teachers for leadership roles; formalize, define, and build the competencies necessary for high-quality leadership to improve student learning; and recognize and encourage shared leadership and decision-making in schools to maximize outcomes for children.

Who should apply

Practicing educators at all levels with at least two years of successful full-time experience as an educator who want to:

  • Learn how to increase their effectiveness as a teacher
  • Pursue a position such as: instructional coach, department chair or development coordinator
  • Pursue a Teacher Leader Endorsement on their Illinois Teaching License

2018 Cohorts

Teacher Leader Licensure (EdM, CAS)

Our teacher leader licensure program is offered online, on-campus, in Des Plaines, IL, and in Chicago, IL. Applicants must choose one of the four locations for the duration of the program.
