by Kalli Clayton (kclayto2@illinois.edu) / Feb 23, 2017

Sammy Lindgren, Coordinator for STEM Teacher Development at MSTE, and a PhD student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering was part of the Sun Buckets team that won the $100,000 Gulfstream Navigator Award at Ocean Exchange in Savannah, GA in November. This award honors an outstanding innovation that demonstrates a positive impact on the environment, economies, and health while respecting cultures around the world and has applications across multiple industries. Sun Buckets, created by researchers in the Stored Solar Stove Project, funded by the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment (iSEE), are portable, stored solar energy cookstoves that allow users to cook without fire, fuel, or emissions. To learn more about the project, visit the Stored Solar Stove Project website or check out Sammy's presentation Solution: Sun Buckets from The Ocean Exchange's 2016 Annual Event.
