Join us on this amazing journey to see schooling in a different country, to understand teaching from a different perspective, and to experience education in a different culture. It is all going to happen in the magical city of Romeo and Juliet—Verona, Italy.

This seven-week Teach Abroad program aims to provide senior students an educational experience to teach in public schools in Verona, Italy.

Program Costs

Program Cost: $4200 (depending on exchange rate and group size.)

Includes • Tuition for Italian courses and cultural courses at IDEA (not UIUC tuition)

• Field trips to: Mantova, Venice, Asiago, and Garda
• Cultural visits including: visit to winery, tickets to Aida(Opera), tickets to museums, bus/train to Vicenza and Padua

Individual Costs: $1,000-$1,500 (for airfare)

Program Details

 

Participants will work with local teachers in classrooms in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and take Italian courses and cultural courses at IDEA Verona on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The additional optional courses include Art History, Painting, Opera, Photography, and History of Music. The visits to cultural and historical sites and museums are arranged during the weekends. 

Orientation

University of Illinois resident director at Verona will hold orientation for all the participants for the first three days. Participants will meet their host families during the orientation.

School Placement

March 22nd to May 10th, 2019 (tentative dates)

Room & Board:

Participants will stay with host families. Daily breakfast and dinner are provided as well as lunch cooking facilities. 

Requirements

The participants must be senior students in the teacher education program in the College of Education. The participants will need to register CI 499 for the spring semester, 2019 in order to participate in this program. 

Scholarship Information

The College of Education will providestudents with a $500 scholarship for teach abroad. Please plan to budget an additional expenses for: airfare, some meals, souvenirs, other incidentals, and International student insurance ($75 billed to your student account).
