Study Abroad in Costa Rica!

Winter Break 2018

Costa Rica Volcano
December 30th - January 12th

During this winter break study abroad opportunity, students will learn about education in Costa Rica beginning in the City of Heredia, with included trips to San Jose to see the Teatro Nacional, Coopetarcoles and Playa Limoncito to learn about sustainable practices, and El Castillo in San Rafael.

Cost: $2200 - includes airfare, housing, most meals, ground travel, tourist activities, lectures. 

3 credit hours for undergraduate students

4 credit hours for graduate students


December 30- Arrival date, first day with families
Jan 2- Trip to Poas volcano, coffee tour in Alajuela
Jan 3- Manuel Antonio National Park, Puntarenas
Jan 4- Las Milpas, Upala, Alajuela. Finca Vocare, Agro-ecological tour - overnight on the farm
Jan 5- Visit to an organic cocoa plantation, volunteer work in Las Milpas: Basic English course for parents and kids; overnight on the farm
Jan 6- Visit to Llanos del Cortez Springs, Bagaces, Guanacaste.
Jan 7- Ziplining and rafting in Pozo Azul, Sarapiqui, heredia. 
Jan 8- Work day at a daycare center for children
Jan 9- Work day at daycare center
Jan 12- Return to USA


The College of Education will provide qualified students with a $500 scholarship for studying abroad. Please plan to budget an additional $600-$1000 for ground transportation, some meals, thank you gifts for your homestay family and host teachers, tourist activities, other incidentals including international student insurance ($75 billed to your student account).
