Manuscript Guidelines

Submission Procedures

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to Educational Theory through the journal's Online Submission System (OJS). Detailed instructions for authors are available here.

Review Procedures

No editorial consideration will be given to manuscripts that have been published elsewhere or are under review for publication elsewhere. (Rare exceptions may be warranted by special circumstances, such as the substantial expansion or revision of previously published material.) Manuscripts are sent out for anonymous review (i.e., reviewers do not know the identity of authors, and authors do not know the identity of reviewers). To preserve the advantages of anonymous reviewing, authors should avoid self-identification in the text as well as in the footnotes of the manuscript.

Format

The manuscript should be double-spaced throughout, including quotations and notes. Notes should be numbered within the text and placed at the end of the manuscript (not at the bottom of the page). Citations for books, journal articles, etc., should be styled according to the guidelines in Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., published by the University of Chicago Press; for samples, please click here. Note that author-date references should not be used. Manuscripts accepted for publication but not in conformance with these guidelines will be returned to the author for revision. Manuscripts should not exceed 7500 words.

Author Responsibilities

Authors alone are responsible for securing permission for quotations from copyrighted materials or materials in private collections. (See entries under "Obtaining Permissions" and "Requesting Permissions" in the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed.) Authors of accepted manuscripts are also expected to submit, or pay for the preparation of, camera-ready copy of figures or illustrations and to bear the cost of any special typography.
