We specialize in the marketing you need

Consultation and Planning
Planning is the key to a successful project. We'll help you think strategically about your goals and how best to achieve them, and work with you to develop a strong message that supports the College of Education. In general, for new projects we recommend you contact us at least eight to 12 weeks before you want the finalized piece completed. We will work with your unit to develop a production schedule with deadlines and responsibilities. Here are questions to consider when planning your print publication.

Content Development
We'll provide ideas and guidelines to help you write the appropriate amount of content for your piece. Additionally, we will help you edit the content to meet the goals of your piece. You are the subject matter expert, so we leave the initial content drafting and final approvals to you. We will begin the design phase after the final content has been approved by your unit.

Typically, the design phase requires about four weeks from the receipt of the finalized and approved copy and all photos to create a draft design. A longer time is required if we need to produce art or photography.

Graphic Design
Our office offers high-end design work for print, collateral, and web projects, as well as for promotional items, giveaways, banners, and signage. We also provide the needed College text mark and templates. We are happy to review your projects to make sure they support the College’s brand. If our office is unable to handle your design request, we maintain a list of contracted vendors you can choose from.

When we cannot do the design for you because of existing projects, we will connect you with trusted graphic designers who are on the university's contracted vendor list. Your unit will be responsible for the design charges, and we will do the final approval of the piece before it is sent to print.

Our production schedule will build throughout multiple days so that you can carefully proof the draft design. We can usually make simple text corrections within days, but if substantial design changes are requested, the project will take longer.

Coordinating and Negotiating Printing and Production Services
For projects we are involved in, our office will handle the details of securing a printer and managing the entire printing process. We will select the best, most cost-effective printer for your project. If you contract a graphic designer, he or she will work directly with the printer for you.

Standard turnaround time for printing is 10 working days. For some projects, particularly smaller quantities, we recommend digital printing, which usually takes only a few days.

Photography and Video Projects
The Communications Office produces videos and schedules photography shoots for College-level marketing and recruitment efforts. If your unit needs video or photography assistance, we can connect you with resources. All photos require signed waivers in order to be used on the web and in print; click to download university-approved Talent Release Forms.

Faculty or staff who need portraits taken can contact Brian Stauffer at the Illinois News Bureau to schedule a studio sitting. The cost for the photo session can be charged to a department or unit.
