Research Practitioner Master's Degree Special Education

Research Practitioner M.S. Special Education

This program is designed for those candidates with an interest in special education research who wish to complete a master's thesis as part of their graduate studies.

All students receiving a research practitioner masters degree in special education will be required to fulfill the following requirements:


CORE SPECIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (20Hours)

Disability Issues in SpEd

SPED 526 Collaborative Leaders in SpED 4 hours
SPED 591 (Section A&B) Innovative Project 1-8 hours
SPED 524 Supervised Practice in SpEd 1-8 hours

 

RESEARCH CONCENTRATION (12 hours)

A concentration of 3 courses in quantitative, qualitative, or evaluation methods. The requirement could be met with a focus in one area or with a combination of methodologies approved by the advisor.


 
MASTER'S THESIS

All students must complete a master's thesis.

 

EDUCATION FOUNDATION COURSE REQUIREMENTS (8 hours)

4 hours of Educational Psychology and 4 hours of Educational Policy Studies chosen from the following courses are required of all master's students.

Students planning to work with adults may take EPSY 407 to meet both of the above EPSY Foundation Requirements 4 hours

OR EPSY 408

EPSY 408 meets 4 hour EPSY Foundation Requirements 4 hours
EPS 400, 402, 403, 404, 420, 421, 423, 424, 426 Educational Policy Studies - Social Foundations 2 hours
EPS 401, 410, 411, 412, 413, 414 Educational Policy Studies - Philosophical Foundations 2 hours
Credits and Waivers: Any Masters degree in Special Education requires a minimum of 36 hours of coursework. Up to 8 hours of required coursework may be waived based on previous coursework. Such waivers will be done by a petition to the Department Curriculum Committee. If waivers bring the total number of hours to below 8, additional courses must be selected to fill the 36 hour minimum requirement.
