General Special Education Master's Degree
General M.S. Degree in Special Education
(Non-certification)
This program is for general education teachers or other certified personnel seeking a master's degree. Special education certified teachers who do not want to pursue further certification may also be interested in this degree. Candidates interested in special topics such as gifted education, social-emotional development, or autism will find opportunities to investigate these topics with nationally recognized faculty members in our department.
Credits and Waivers: Any Masters degree in Special Education requires a minimum of 36 hours of coursework. Up to 8 hours of required coursework may be waived based on previous coursework. Such waivers will be done by a petition to the Department Curriculum Committee. If waivers bring the total number of hours to below 8, additional courses must be selected to fill the 36 hour minimum requirement.
All students receiving a general master's degree in special education will be required to complete the following requirements:

| These special education courses are individually determined between the student and advisor. These courses may consist of concentrated areas related to LBS II options or other courses deemed appropriate by the advisor. It is quite likely that students would need courses related to curriculum and teaching methods, especially before the student engages in SpEd 524. |
