SOAR (Student Opportunities for After-School Resources)

The SOAR after-school tutoring program is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to provide homework and reading help to students in grades 2-5 who are most in need of some extra support. Spanish-speaking skills are only necessary if working with a 2nd grader. SOAR operates from 3:00-4:15 p.m. every Tuesday through Thursday at Garden Hills Elementary School (2001 Garden Hills Dr.) in Champaign. Volunteers are asked to commit at least one day a week during the academic semester to working individually with a child and should be available from 2:45-4:15 on the day they tutor.

Champaign High Schools
Volunteer Orientation/Training Session - Spring 2012 :
Interested in volunteering at a high school in Champaign? Lauren Smith, Champaign Unit 4 Community Outreach Coordinator, will be conducting the required orientation sessions on campus this semester! Tutors will learn more about volunteering at the Champaign high schools and will have the opportunity to sign up for time slot and class in which to volunteer. Please choose to attend ONE of the following required sessions:
Wednesday, January 25, 8:00-9:00 p.m., in Room 242 of the College of Education Building on UI campus (1310 S. Sixth St.)
OR
Thursday, February 9, 5:30-6:30 p.m., in Room 192 of the College of Education Building on UI campus (1310 S. Sixth St.)
