Dean Harris is actively interested and conducts research in the areas of children's literature, multicultural children's literature, children's book publishing, the historic development of African American literacy, and the creation of literacy materials created specifically for African Americans. She is a dog lover and frequently spends a quiet day reading.

Dean Trent has dedicated herself to improving diversity and minority recruitment at the College of Education. Her commitment to the College is a family one as her husband is a professor in Educational Policy Studies. Mildred frequently models lovely outfits which she has made herself.
