The counseling Center provides services that are designed to help students address many academic, relational, and emotional concerns. Educational services that may be of interest to you include:

  • Reading and Study Skills Program – Helps you get the most out of your study time by providing information on reading and study methods; speed reading; intensive, high level vocabulary enhancement for students taking standardized exams with vocabulary sections (e.g. GRE, PCAT); and, preparation for standardized graduate admission exams (e.g. GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, PCAT, DAT).
  • Project Aim – Project AIM is an opportunity for students who are experiencing academic difficulties to meet with an undergraduate student who is trained to assist with academic concerns. These meetings are held in a relaxed and confidential setting for the purpose of discussing the student's academic situation and designing a plan of action to address the academic needs.

Technology Services at Illinois

Technology Services at Illinois answers questions and provides individual consultation about personal computers. Consultants are familiar with the Windows based PC and Apple Macintosh and can help in converting between the two systems. They can also recover files from disks, check out software, set up mainframe accounts, buy software, solve on-the-spot problems, reset passwords and answer or make referrals for questions about other systems.

Division of Intercollegiate Athletics

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics provides individual tutoring to all student athletes. The Office of Academic Services of Intercollegiate Athletics selects tutors. Students initiate most tutorials. There are individual and group studies. Call for information. The Irwin Academic Services Building is open for study hall 7 days a week. Hours vary. Mandatory study hours are required for some student athletes.

Librarian Office Hours

Librarian Office Hours is provided by librarians and graduate students from throughout the University Library system to assist students with various aspects of the research process.
Librarian Office Hours provides:

  • General help using library resources
  • Assistance in selecting appropriate resources for your topic
  • Guidance in using advanced techniques in database searching
  • In depth term paper research counseling

During the set office hours, you will have an opportunity to receive assistance in a less open setting than the library reference desk. Office hours are held in the Undergrad Teaching Lab, Room 291 of the Undergraduate Library. Please contact the office for available hours.

Library Tours

In order to get the most use of our library facilities on campus, it is important that you take an opportunity to learn your way around. There are a variety of tour options for the Main and Undergraduate Libraries. You can either choose to take the walking tour, a virtual tour, a podcast tour, or the self-guided audiocassette tours.

Take a virtual tour of the Main Library and the Library Gateway! During the tour, attendees will learn about the services provided by the Undergraduate Library, visit departmental libraries and the 'stacks' as well as take a tour of virtual library services via the Library Gateway. The session will last about 50 minutes.

Media & Reserve Services

Media & Reserve Services at the Undergraduate Library provides non-print materials to be viewed in-house or in the classroom, facilitates access to print and electronic reserve material and maintains the principle audio-visual collection for the University Library.

Residence Hall Libraries

The residence hall library system maintains a collection that consists of approximately 27,000 items across 8 locations on campus. This includes monographs, periodicals, media materials, leisure reading, plus a broad diversity and social identity section.

Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Friday and Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Locations include:
