New University of Illinois Graduate Students: Complete the Graduate College Application

  • All applications for admission are submitted to the Graduate College. The Graduate College Application is also the application for financial aid.

Current University of Illinois Graduate Students:

  • Fill out Graduate Student Petition (select "Change Curriculum" under REQUEST) Please review Instructions for Student Petition first.
  • Submit completed petition, along with the name of the department in which you are currently admitted, and the names of the current department head and your most recent advisor. Do not submit directly to the Graduate College.
  • Submit all materials to: Diversity & Equity Program; EPS; 360 Education Building; 1310 S. 6th St. MC-708; Champaign, IL 61820, by the admissions deadline. Materials may be dropped off in person or faxed to 217.333.5847.

Former University of Illinois Graduate Students:

  • Fill out Graduate Student Petition (select "Re-entry" and "Change Curriculum" under REQUEST) Please review Instructions for Student Petition first.

Prepare and Submit Supporting Application Materials

Domestic Applicants

  • Personal Statement (doc) - A statement in which you provide evidence of how your professional experiences and prior academic work have focused your thinking toward the planned program of study.
  • 3 Letters of Reference (pdf) - From persons who have direct knowledge of your academic and/or professional performance and potential for graduate study. If the recommenders complete this online, no additional copy is necessary.
  • Transcripts - Submit official transcripts from every college/university you have attended, both undergrad or graduate, in a sealed envelope, with a certification stamp across the seal. "Issued to Student" copies are not considered official by the Graduate College. All transcripts must be sent directly to the Diversity & Equity Program; Educational Policy Studies; 360 Education Building; 1310 S. 6th St. MC-708; Champaign, IL 61820. IMPORTANT: Even if you have course work from the University of Illinois, we still need your official transcript mailed to us. Please contact the Office of the Registrar if you desire additional information.
  • Current Professional Resume (Curriculum Vitae) - Please use the space provided by the only application to upload this document.

International Applicants Only

  • TOEFL Score - International applicants must submit an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score report for an exam taken within four years of date of requested admission. The score must come from the testing agency, self-reported scores are not acceptable. The institution code is 1836, the program code is 00.
    The department requires a minimum TOEFL score of 620 on the paper version of test (pbt); minimum score of 260 on the computer version of test (cbt) and minimum score of 105 on the Internet based test (ibt).
  • Declaration and Certification of Finances (pdf) - This version of the form may be completed online, except for signatures. It should be completed, printed, signatures gathered, and sent directly (either by mail or fax) to the EOL department. You may wish to save a copy to your computer. The form is also in the application, but that version cannot be completed online. The Graduate College has provided a financial worksheet to help.

Admission Criteria

The Department of Human Resource Education considers the following as criteria for admission to degree programs

  • Quality of undergraduate work (a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work).
  • Quality of graduate work.
  • Quality of recommendations contained in three letters of reference.
  • Relevance of work experience and career goals.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL), for applicants from non-English speaking countries. See acceptable scoring above.
