Teach Abroad in Verona, Italy 

March 20th to May 10th, 2017


Join us on this amazing journey to see schooling in a different country, to understand teaching from a different perspective, and to experience education in a different culture. It is all going to happen in the magical city of Romeo and Juliet—Verona, Italy.


Program Summary:

This seven-week Teach Abroad program from March 20th to May 10th, 2017 aims to provide senior students an educational experience to teach in public schools in Verona, Italy.

Participants will work with local teachers in the classrooms in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and take Italian courses and cultural courses at IDEA on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The additional optional courses include Art History, Painting, Opera, Photography, and History of Music. The visits to cultural and historical sites and museums are arranged during the weekends. 


University of Illinois resident director at Verona will hold orientation for all the participants for the first three days. Participants will meet their host families during the orientation.

School Placement: March 23rd to May 10th, 2017 (tentative dates)

Room & Board:

Participants will stay with host families. Daily breakfast and dinner are provided as well as lunch cooking facilities. 

Program Costs:

The cost is tentatively $4000, depending on the exchange rate and the group size. It includes tuition for Italian courses and cultural courses at IDEA (not UIUC tuition), welcome dinner, orientation fees, lunch and dinner at orientation, family stays with two meals, field trips to Mantova (bus, guide, lunch), Venice (train, boat, lunch), Asiago (bus+hotel), Garda, visit to winery, tickets to Aida(Opera), tickets to museums, bus/train to Vicenza and Padua, books, bus tickets, cell phones, farewell dinner presents, and prizes for scavenger hunt.

Individual Costs:

The airplane tickets cost approximately $1500 from Chicago (ORD) to Verona, Italy. You may purchase on your own. Or we may purchase for you at a group rate at your own cost. 


The participants must be senior students in the teacher education program in the College of Education. The participants will need to register CI 499 for the spring semester, 2017 in order to participate in this program. 


The College of Education should have $500 for students who participate in Study or Teach Abroad programs, which can be applied towards your air tickets or program costs.
