Undergraduate Admissions to the College of Education

Once you've decided which of our undergraduate teacher education degrees you want to pursue, you're ready to begin the process of joining us. Undergraduate admission to the College is a two tiered process coordinated by the College Student Academic Affairs Office.  See below to learn when you can apply to the College and where you should begin the process. The admissions process can sometimes get confusing. If you run into questions along the way, please contact the College Student Academic Affairs Office.

Where Should You Start with Your Application?

Depending on your chosen program and your academic year, you will have slightly different admission requirements. Pick from the options below to find out how to get started.

Will you be a UI Freshman seeking admission?

Students entering the University as Freshman will apply to the Office of Admission using an online process. Information on the process specific to admission to the College of Education Pre-Teacher program is available on the Education web site.

Are you enrolled in another university and hope to transfer into the College of Education at Illinois?

Transfer students will apply to the Office of Admissions using and online process. Information on the process specific to admission to the College of Education programs is available on the Education web site.

Are you already a UI student who is seeking admission into the College of Education?

Current University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign undergraduates must apply to the College of Education during the freshman or sophomore year. Information on specific program application requirements, prerequisites, and process is available through the links below:

• Pre-Teacher Education
• Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education
• Teaching of Secondary Education minor

Are you planning on becoming a secondary English, math, social studies or science teacher?

These students will apply to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as freshman and then apply the Secondary Teacher Education minor their sophomore year. This is part of the second tier application process. Information on this program is available on the LAS web site.
