Audio

Audio to Audio capability is an integral part of the online environment at Education Online. We strongly recommend an audio headset. You can select an affordable, high-quality headset from our Recommended Headsets page. For those of you who are already comfortable with your audio environment, we’ve created this Audio Environment Setup Guide to assist you. In addition, although you'll learn more about the Elluminate Live software in a later section, if your audio is already setup and ready to go, you can configure your audio now by going to the Elluminate Configuration Page (under the 'First Time Users' banner).

Video

QuickTime

As part of the course activities, you will be required to access streamed audio files. You will use Quicktime to access audio and video within your courses.

Do you already have Quicktime installed?

  • Yes: Click on the "Play Quicktime File" link below to ensure you can access and play media files similar to those used in Education Online courses.
  • No: Please install Quicktime from the Student Software site (under "Players & Plug-Ins") and then Play Testing Quicktime File

Messaging

AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)

As part of the course activities, we highly recommend you install AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) software. AIM often serves as a back-up software if Elluminate is not available or if you would like to meet with a group of your classmates outside of normal "live: class hours. It 's also an easy way to access our Tech Help Supprt. AIM is free to use and does NOT require you to subscribe to AOL's online service in any way. However, if you already use AOL, your AIM screen name can be the same as your AOL screen name.

Click the link above (in the blue tutorials box) to view the tutorial (PDF) describing the steps required to install and use AIM. Video chatting is required for some courses, please also view the tutorial of Audio & Video Chatting in AIM to prepare in advance.

As explained in the tutorial, if you do not have AIM currently installed on your machine, you may download it from our Student Software Site (note: there are different versions for MAC and PC). Once you have AIM installed, you can login and send a message to the LDL Support Team (our screen name is "LDL Tech Help").

*Note: If you are logging onto the Internet through a LAN connection (e.g., from your workplace), you may have problems using an Instant Messenger because of "firewalls." Please check with your organization's information technology department and make sure they do not have any firewalls set up that will prohibit the use of AIM.

If you encounter any technical problems when trying to complete this activity, contact LDL Technical Support
