Technical Issues (Moodle)

Uploading a file to Moodle

Step 1: Click on the link labeled as Assignment or Submission on your course homepage

Uploading mutiple files to Moodle

You can attach more than one file in Moodle by first creating a zip file of the documents you want to attach. Once a zip file is created, you can attach that zip-file in Moodle.
A zip file is single file that contains one or more compressed files. Zip files compress data and therefore save space and make downloading files faster.
To zip or unzip a file you need to have WinZip program. The WinZip program is available on the HRE Online website under "Student Software," "Utilities."

Steps to zip a file:

  • Open WinZip Wizard mode. (If the WinZip Wizard does not open by default, just click the Wizard button in the toolbar.)You will be prompted with a question “What do you want to do?”
  • Select “Create a new Zip file” and click "Next." The WinZip Wizard will guide you through the entire process.

Steps to unzip a file:

  • Double click the file or Start WinZip and choose “Unzip.”
  • The WinZip Wizard will guide through the process of unzipping your file.

How to avoid audio issues (i.e., choppy, static, or echoing sound during the session)

During your Elluminate Live! session, you may experience issues with the Audio where the sound may seem choppy or may echo. This may be caused by an upgrade of Java Web Start (for example from version 1.5 to version 1.6) which can corrupt the audio resource file.

The solution is to clear your Java cache. Please follow the below instructions.

  • Click on the Start menu and select Control Panel (Settings -> Control Panel)
  • Open “Java”
  • Click the “Settings” button in the bottom column.
  • Click the “Delete Files” Button.
  • This will open a “Delete Temporary Files” dialog box.  Select “OK” for deleting “Applications and Applets” and “Trace and Log Files”.
  • Close the Java Control Panel

I get a "Connection Failed" operation "Timed Out" error when attempting to start my Elluminate session.

This message displays when you are prevented from connecting to an Elluminate Live! server to authenticate and join a session. This may be caused by a firewall/proxy or lost Internet connection. It may also be caused by network adapter cards running software drivers that cannot negotiate a priority connection. Elluminate Live! requests a priority connection through your computer's network adapter card.

This error can be caused by a few different things:

1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet and that the connection is active. After that, you may need to configure your computer's personal firewall/router or your company or school's firewall or proxy settings to allow access to Elluminate Live!. This may require the intervention of a System Administrator.

If the above options do not apply to you, we recommend you try updating the software drivers for your Network Adapter Card (NIC).  Using the drivers provided by the manufacturer may help solve this problem

Step 1.  Click on the Start menu and select Control Panel (Settings -> Control Panel)
Step 2.  Open the System control
Step 3.  Select the Hardware tab
Step 4.  Click on the Device Manager button
Step 5.  Scroll down the list to find Network Adapters and click the " + " to reveal the type of network adapter card (NIC) in use. Record this information, which is usually the manufacturer and model name.  An example is “Broadcom NetXtreme 5700 Gigabit Controller”.
