10: Using Synchronous Space
Once you complete this section, you should be able to
- Access and participate in the synchronous "LIVE class" sessions
- Manage Elluminate concepts such as person-to-person chat
- Access the Elluminate archives
As part of the course activities, you will be required to participate in weekly synchronous sessions. This section describes how to access and utilize the Elluminate software used for these sessions.
A practice class will be held one week prior to the starting date of your first class (unless otherwise specified, see details in Orientation Section 4) .
Elluminate Login/Password
When logging into your (Moodle) course from the Education Online Portal, you'll automatically be logged into your Elluminate session. However, in case you need to login to your Elluminate synchronous session separately (from http://elluminate.com/member.jsp) here is your login and password information:
Elluminate is a synchronous space where the course live sessions are held.You cannot change your Elluminate ID or Password.
- Your Elluminate login is: Your UIUC NetID-UIUC (ex: jdoe-UIUC)
- Your Password is: Your UIUC NetID (ex: jdoe)
Practice Class Session
One week before your first scheduled session/course meeting (at same time and on the same evening - unless otherwise directed), you will be required to attend a practice (Elluminate) synchronous session. We will utilize the same technology for this practice session as we do for all synchronous class sessions. You will receive an email message with the time that you should log in so that you can test your computer’s configuration and learn about important system features. This practice time will also provide us with the opportunity to meet each other. Refer to Section 4 (Course Overview) for the practice session schedule.

Should you experience technical difficulties while trying to access the practice class, contact the LDL Tech Support Team immediately. During the session, you will have the opportunity to test the software used for your course. You will also get a chance to meet fellow students and some of the LDL Staff. Access is gained through the "Elluminate" link from within your online (Moodle) course.
Note: The technical support team is here to help you with any technical problems you may encounter with the programs and software we recommend on our Student Software Site. We cannot support software that is not listed on our site.
