Masters of Education in Learning Design and Leadership with Bilingual or ESL Endorsement - Online
Students in this track will earn a Masters of Education (EdM) in Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a concentration in Learning Design & Leadership. The research area of study for this track is Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) Education. Students in this track will complete the coursework necessary for an endorsement in either Bilingual Education or English as a Second Language Education. Note: State rules mandate that no course with a grade lower than C can be used towards licensure, endorsement, or approvals. This means courses with a C- or lower and CR/NC courses cannot be used.
Sequence: The courses for the Bilingual or ESL Endorsement (CI courses listed above) must be taken in the order listed (CI 433 first, CI 517 last)
Master's Degree Note: All Master of Education students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours at the 500 course-level.
Clinical Experience Requirement: In addition to the coursework the State requires 100 clock hours or 3 months of teaching experience in a bilingual classroom. For additional State requirements please see the Council on Teacher Education's website.
Exam requirement: For the Bilingual endorsement only, successful completion of a Language Proficiency Test for an Education License with Stipulations Endorsed as Transitional Bilingual in the non-English language to be taught is required.
For students already holding a Professional Educator License (PEL): Upon completion of the program, contact Brenda Clevenger Evans from the Council on Teacher Education to have the endorsement added to the PEL.

Online Learning Expectations
- Students must login within the first 48 hours of a course start and at least once every 72 hours after that to maintain "active" status. Furthermore, students must log in on at least 4 of the 7 days per week.
- Time commitment varies by program. Expect to spend at least 20 hours per week in our graduate level courses. If you're like many students, you might find it hard to get started when there are no hard deadlines. So, doing well in an online course isn't just about intelligence, but also about being organized and self-motivated. Learning to control time instead of letting time control you is key! You might also find it a little strange communicating with faculty that you have never met in person. This type of work requires a whole different set of skills than learning in a traditional classroom.
- Communication and conduct in your online course will be held to the same standards and be governed by the same policies as any on-campus course. Student should know how to: contribute to the course in a meaningful way; to compose course assignments, email messages and discussion board postings using appropriate tone, language, grammar and spelling; to avoid cheating, plagiarism, giving or receiving unauthorized assistance on tests or assignments; to know your student rights and responsibilities.
