Congress is currently deliberating reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act, the 2001 education law that established achievement standards for America’s public schools.
Lizanne DeStefano, a professor of quantitative and evaluative research methodologies at the College of Education, is an expert on testing and assessment and has evaluated numerous federal- and state-level education initiatives. DeStefano, who is also director of the I-STEM Education Initiative at Illinois, discussed NCLB’s impact on public schools with News Bureau education editor Sharita Forrest.
