EPOL professor Wenhao David Huang collaborated with graduate students Sun Joo Yoo and Seung Hyun Caleb Han on researching e-training initiatives. They found that companies need to focus on making programs enjoyable and mentally stimulating for employees whenever possible, and offering extrinsic incentives such as pay increases and promotions when employees need extra motivation.
Employees’ acceptance of technology is critical to the successful implementation of e-learning, and organizations often over-estimate the effectiveness of extrinsic incentives as motivators, particularly when training programs are involuntary, said the lead author on the study, Sun Joo Yoo, who is a graduate student in human resource development in EPOL.
