Pre-Service (BA, BS) Programs
The College of Education offers pre-service teacher education programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Special Education. The College also works with other campus units to prepare students for teaching secondary school subjects, such as mathematics, social studies and the sciences.
International students are welcome to apply to these programs, but should be aware that all of these programs are designed to prepare teachers to meet the requirements of the State of Illinois.
This does not imply that these programs don't include elements that are relevant to teaching outside Illinois and the United States. However, interested students should check with authorities in the location where they hope to teach to determine if the College's pre-service programs are appropriate preparation, and meet their certification requirements.
Please note, however, that over the past decade, the College has sought to internationalize all of its programs, including its pre-service programs. This means that the curriculum includes international content, appropriate to the needs of teachers who are now expected to be familiar with the global context in which they will work, and be able to deal with issues of diversity, both within the United States and elsewhere. It also means providing students opportunities to travel abroad and participate in student exchange programs.
