An Overview from our Department Head

 

Thanks for your interest in the Department of Human Resource Education at the University of Illinois. On these pages, you'll find information about our programs, our department, and our faculty. As you review the content of this site you will see that we offer a comprehensive program that places heavy emphasis on individual and organizational performance improvement in a variety of settings. You may already be aware that our program is consistently ranked among the top programs of its kind in the nation. We take pride in our strong reputation and the high quality of our faculty, staff, and students. Our faculty are exceptional scholars, instructors, and leaders. You will learn more about their backgrounds, research interests, and accomplishments as you explore this website.

Our graduate programs provide learning opportunities within several major areas of study. Students who pursue the master's or doctoral program in our department have the option of gaining insights into the theories and practices of community college teaching, e-learning, and human resource development. At the doctoral level, students can choose to specialize in a variety of concentrations including learning technologies, organization development, and training and development. We find that this comprehensive curriculum prepares our graduates for leadership positions in higher education and organizational settings.

Beyond our instructional program, we have a variety of initiatives that support research and public service efforts. The Department continues to be a primary partner in the National Center for Research in Career and Technical Education and in the National Center for Engineering and Technology Education. We also are a leader in the development and delivery of online instructional programs. Our relationships with other educational institutions and corporations provide close interaction with educational practitioners. Finally, we are involved in extensive international development activities in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia.
