Step 2: Expectations

Time Commitment

Course content, grading criteria, and work load requirements for the online courses are equivalent to our on-campus courses. On average, lectures, readings, assignments, discussions, and team projects will require between 8 and 10 hours per week for a 4 credit hour course. With exception of the weekly synchronous session, students are free to set their own academic work schedules. Course requirements also include extensive written assignments, including shorter reaction papers and longer term papers following the formatting and style guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA). PLEASE NOTE: Not all APA websites are the same! Be sure to double-check your citation for accurracy. It is recommended that you purchase a copy of Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Edition). The APA recently released a second printing of the 6th Edition due to typographical errors present in the original printing. It is recommended that you purchase directly from the APA website to ensure that you receive the most accurate version. Major cites, such as Amazon, may be unreliable until the second printing is more widely distributed.

Student Code

As in any academic environment, HRE Online expects its students to be engaged, respectful, and the author of their own work. While it is our perpetual hope that infractions of any of the aforementioned are avoided, there are policies and procedures in place for the rare instance that they do occur. The University of Illinois Student Code is the document strictly adhered to as contract between the institution and its students. It is highly recommended that you take the time to familiarize yourself with the Student Code with special attention paid to Articles 1 (Student Rights and Responsibilities) and 3 (Academic Policies and Regulations). The Student Code is available online at http://www.admin.uiuc.edu/policy/code/index.html.

HRE Online Homepage

The HRE Online Homepage is your most useful resource for information regarding the program. From this page you will find access to your courses, receive registration instructions, locate textbook information, and find a series of links that are provided to facilitate your HRE Online experience. The program has been set up so that students have remote access to the information they need when they need it; the Homepage is your gateway. It is available here. Bookmark this page and use it!

Email

All correspondence from the HRE Online office will be sent to your CITES Express Email account (@illinois.edu). Accessing your CITES Express Email (as well as redirecting messages to a different account) will be covered in a Section 9: UIUC Email.
