EPS 500 CC: Social Foundations of Community Colleges

In an era, of globalization, where the stakes are ever much higher, higher education is not immune from these forces. What is the mission of the community college? Is the mission antiquated in today’s world? Has vocational education been compromised in order to prepare the new generation of community college students to attend four-year institutions? How do we educate a student body that is more diverse than ever? This course will explore the historical, social, political, technological and economical forces shaping the modern day community college. The class will examine the connection between social foundations and the role of community colleges in the scheme of higher education systems and policy.
